          Early Life and Military Service

          Aldo Ray, born Aldo DaRe, was born in 1926 in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, to a family of Italian descent.

          He had five brothers and a sister, although only one of them achieved fame in the 1950s as a football player. When he turned 18, Ray volunteered for the army and served in the Navy. After his discharge, he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, but dropped out a few months later.

          He then moved to Crockett, California, with his young wife Shirley Green and their daughter Claire.

          Early Acting Career

          While living in Crockett, Ray decided to help his brother by driving him to a film studio where auditions were being held for the movie "Saturday's Hero".
